Very rarely ICUs witness celebrations. A boy turning 15 on heart transplantation postoperative day 1 calls for one.

15 year old Deekshith, was suffering from heart failure and bedridden for two years, gets a new Heart at Metromed International Cardiac Centre, Calicut Kerala, under the leadership of Prof. Dr.V Nandakumar ( HOD,Cheif Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgeon) on 12th March 2022 Saturday early morning. He showed dramatic improvement after the surgery and out of ventilator with in 24 hours and the post operative day 1 happened to be his birthday. Small birthday celebration was arranged for him in the ICU. Doctors, nurses and other paramedic staff of Metromed who involved in surgery were witness to the occasion. It was his first birthday with a new heart. Heart failure secondary to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) has become a medical challenge, incidence of heart failure has increased dramatically during this covid period. Transplantation is the only hope for many terminally ill heart failure patients. Dr Ashok Jayaraj, Dr Riyad, Dr Jaleel, Dr Vinod, Dr Lakshmi and Dr Girish PV were in this transplant surgery team.
