A breakthrough procedure performed at Metromed International Cardiac Centre, to prevent stroke in patients with abnormal heart beats

Jul 17, 2018

There is a higher probability of getting a stroke in heart patients with abnormal heart rhythms due to blood clotting. Until recently, such patients were given life-long medicines to thin their blood. However, this treatment is not effective for everybody, as it will cause excessive bleeding in some patients; and some find it difficult to withstand medicines. Fortunately, an advanced treatment is now available for the above mentioned issues through a device called Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Closure Device. A clot usually develops from the left side of the heart at the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA). Arrhythmic heart diseases can be effectively treated by plugging a special clip at that specific area, called LAA Closure Device; followed by a Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) procedure. This shall give the patient a complete recovery. This procedure gives dual benefits to the patient. The Left Atrial Closure (LAA) prevents the formation of clots through plugging, while the Radio Frequency Ablation gives absolute cure for abnormal heart rhythms. These two combined procedures have marked another breakthrough in the field of medical heart care. By successfully performing both procedures in one instance, for the first time in India, MICC has passed another milestone in cardiac health industry, says Dr. P. P. Mustafa MD of MICC.
